Church Profile

We Love to Praise God for His Amazing Love, Joy and Peace!

PAZ Japan Mission was started by Pastor Tim Huber in April of 1988, when he moved from the Amazon in Brazil to Noborito in Kawasaki City.  As a single missionary, he began teaching English Bible studies around his “kotatsu” table in his 2-room apartment in Noborito. The first worship meeting of Noborito Ekklesia Christian Church was held in his apartment in September of 1989 and was attended by 6 people. Now we meet at 2582 Noborito, which is a 3-minute walk from Noborito Station on the Odakyu Line, which is in turn 20 minutes from Shinjuku and downtown Tokyo.

We are an Evangelical church, founded on the belief that the Bible is the inerrant and infallible Word of God. Our salvation is through Jesus Christ, Who died for our sins on the cross, rose again from the dead, and lives forever victorious!  Having our roots in the Apostolic Christian Church in the USA, PAZ Japan Mission is an extension of Project AmaZon, an interdenonimational church-planting mission in northern Brazil. (“PAZ” is Portuguese for “Peace.”)  http://www.projectamazon.org/

In 1997, Tim was married to Christine, also a missionary from the Amazon. Together with Yasu and Abbie Aoki and several other very dedicated staff, our goal is to share God’s love and salvation with our community, and eventually throughout Japan and other countries around the world.  We want to help people who are in need, spiritually, socially, and physically, as taught by the Lord Jesus in the Bible. Jesus teaches us to love God first and foremost and then to love one another as He has loved us.

Funabashi Ekklesia Christian Church in Chiba http://www.ekklesia-funabashi.org/, was begun in 2001, pastored by Tomohiko and Meg Kobayashi. We are now beginning churches in other parts of Japan and are also supporting missionaries to other countries.

Senior Pastor Tim Huber

Senior Pastor Tim Huber, born in 1954, was raised by missionary parents in southern Brazil. He graduated with a major in Missions and Pastoral Care from Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina, and received a master's degree in TESL at WCIU in Pasadena, California. Together with his parents and family, he worked as a missionary in the Amazon for five and a half years. In the Amazon, he also worked with Japanese immigrants. For many years he prayed for Japan, and in 1987, he was sent by Project Amazon Mission to Japan as a missionary. He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Japanese.

In 1997, Tim married Christine, a missionary with Project Amazon. She was also the widow of his older brother Luke, who died suddenly in an airplane crash in the Amazon in 1994, leaving four children 10-19 years of age. Today all of them love and serve the Lord in the Amazon and in the USA. Tim and Christine enjoy their six grandchildren, even though they are far away.

Christine was raised by missionary parents on the Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona. She graduated from Biola University in Los Angeles, majoring in Christian Education. Tim and Christine are so amazed by God's faithfulness through difficult times and the true joy and freedom He gives to Japanese people who decide to put Him first in their lives. They love working with Japanese Christians to spread God's love in Japan and in other countries around the world.

Associate Pastor Yasu Aoki

Associate Pastor Yasu Aoki, born in 1967, grew up in Ito, Shizuoka, and graduated in Forestry from Tokyo Agricultural University. Atsuko (Abbie), born in 1968, raised in Fujisawa, Kanagawa, graduated in English from Kanda Institute of Foreign Language. They were married in 1993, and now they have two beautiful daughters. For many years, Yasu's passion was risky rock-climbing, and he enjoyed spending nights in a hammock dangling from dangerous heights. When their daughters were still small, Yasu quit his job and moved his family to Tasmania, Australia, to study English. In Tasmania, some Christians showed them God's love, and after a difficult struggle, Yasu put his faith in Jesus. Abbie also decided to dedicate her whole life to God. God transformed their family into a loving Christian home, and they later attended Bible school at WEC Worldview Center for Intercultural Studies.

Today, Yasu's passion for God is even stronger than his passion for rock-climbing!  God called him back to Japan where he dedicates all his attention to helping children, handicapped people, teaching the Bible in a very practical way, and challenging people to dedicate their lives 100% to serving God. Abbie wholeheartedly supports his ministry with outside employment, helping to supply the family finances. She also enjoys organizing and leading many children's and parents' activities. Their goal is to raise their children to love and obey the Lord and to help other parents do the same. They have a strong passion for Japanese children and for helping Japanese people find eternal life in Jesus Christ.
